JOSEPH ROBERTS
Joseph Roberts, born December 6, 1797, in North Carolina, later moved to middle Tennessee and had 6 sons and 4
daughters. Today, there are over 4500 documented descendants of Joseph Roberts.
Each year the Roberts Family holds a reunion to celebrate our common heritage and to fellowship with family members
of all ages from all parts of the country.
This
reunion was brought about by the efforts of Howard Roberts, Velma (Roberts) Phillips, Carlos Herren, and others to
enable the extended family to get together, renew old acquaintances, and learn about each other. It was also
brought about by the desire and need to reclaim and/or maintain multiple cemeteries where our fore fathers were
buried. Markers and headstones were needed for some of the graves. It was the desire of Clavis Roberts
to mark all the graves that had no headstones while there were people still alive who had the information needed to
do so. Along with his son, Tommy, many a day, weekend, vacation, and other available times were dedicated to
this end. Today, through the efforts and contributions of Joseph Roberts' descendants, many of the unmarked
graves now have headstones, some cemeteries have been cleaned, others have been fenced, roads have been improved,
and tours of the cemeteries are available during the reunions.
At the reunions we have dinners with food provided by some of the greatest cooks around, all on a volunteer basis.
It is a covered dish or pot luck dinner (that's the noon meal). It is a great time to catch up with
old friends, families, and acquaintances.
In 2000, a book chronicling the Descendants of Joseph Roberts was made available by Tommy Roberts. Thanks to
his and all the contributors' efforts, literally covering many years, this record and genealogy of the Joseph Roberts
family was made possible.
Come out and help us make the next Descendants of Joseph Roberts Reunion the best reunion yet.
