In researching ideas for the 1967 Highlander, I reviewed old annuals back to the 1940's. We had been taught this and other techniques at the classes that the Annual Staff attended each year. I picked up an early annual from either 1940 or 1941.
It was maybe 3/8 of an inch thick with the hardback binding. I thought to myself, "I'll never find anything of interest in something this old and this small." I could have not been more wrong!
Coach Medley and others had worked really hard and brought back Football in my Freshmen year. Thank all of you for all of your hard work.
While we really did not have winning seasons those first few years, it was a great morale booster and a lot of fun, along with the hard work, for the players.
I looked in the little annual which was mostly the hard back bindings and what did I find? Upperman had been the Upper Cumberland Conference champions in about 3 or 4 different sports!
They had excelled in Forensic events such as debate! They were leaders in other areas, too! I said all that just to say this, get ready, here it comes, "You can't judge someone by their appearance."
And you thought that I was going to say, "You can't judge a book..." oh, well, never mind. Life has a way to trick us especially when we are in that warm, familiar, easy going, rut!
Get out and do something fun, something good, something for someone else, but first take a look down memory lane.
